He asserts that it is out of his hands, that this pattern of behavior is simply part of his core personality by referring to it as his "destiny. There's an English story about someone called Tim Brightside, Mr. Tim Brightside was an Englishman who came to America and fell in love with a prostitute.
The prostitute promised to quit her job for Tim. Tragically, one night she meets with a client in a carriage, and she cheats on Brightside for her job. Brightside finds out, climbs to the top of the Brooklyn Bridge, and commits suicide. I think it's based on this. I feel the meaning of this song is given away in the title to a certain extent.
This song describes this mentality and how it is applied to his love life. However, the song then opens up a new chapter of this mans love life. His eagerness and willingness to be open-minded and continue looking for love has once again backfired and proven to do nothing but break his heart and disappoint him. This man shall put the events of the past behind him, and continue to live on and find new love.
This song is about a man obviously pushed around by disloyal girlfriends too often without setting them straight. The song is about a man's obsession with his significant other who is cheating on him. He tends to miss these things because he is an optimistic person. But now it has hit him. See mr Brightside for more. All you douche bags are wrong!!! When I hear this song, I see someone sitting somewhere, talking to a girl.
They are friends and have been for years. In his mind, he always feel there is more than just friendship. They kissed once, but just a friendly peck on the cheek. Although he knows better, it "confirmed" his delusion. Once home, knowing he cant have her,he pictures her, with the other guys she was talking to; perhaps one in particular. Seems to me this is a song about jealousy.
It's obsessive and uncontrollable. Falling asleep, he's imagining her going out and cheating on him. He sees his girlfriend share a friendly hello kiss it was only a kiss, she says when he confronts her Hence the repetition.
It was only a kiss. This is crazy unbelievable to him. Over and over his jelous mind takes him into a black hole of imagined consequences. She shares a cigarette with someone The Mr Brightside title is ironic. This song is clearly about a deranged man who has been sent to a mental asylum after being convicted of sexually assaulting a woman, whilst being mentally unstable.
In the song, the man speaks about the demons in his head, in the lines 'I just can't look its killing me And taking control'.
This informs listeners that because of his mental state, he was convicted of a crime that did not actually happen. He did not sexually assault the woman, instead he wrongly kissed her, and, taking advantage of his mental incapacity, she took him to court. Rangers49 on December 24, I love this song too. It has everything. Love romance. Unexpected drama. But above all, tragedy. Brandon has been locked away in his own lonely place.
Now he is starting to meet people and it has been progressing satisfactorily for him in these new experiences that he has been invlolved in. And now that he is in the outside world, he wants to enjoy it all.
If he asks "How did it end up like this? In the film clip he is with Izabella Miko who is a prostitute. Therefore we must assume that the lyrics are about a young man who falls in love with a prostitute. He pays her and they have sex. However during the commercial transaction, they kiss. From that moment on everything changes. He is now in love. We must assume that to some extent Izabella reciprocates his feelings.
Brandon is in his apartment in bed after they have made love. She calls a cab to take her away to an appointment with Eric Roberts. When she arrives Eric is smoking a cigarette. She takes a drag because they are familiar and comfortable with each other. They have done this before, many times.
They go to bed. Brandon's imaginings make him sick to his stomach. He loves her. He knows with his whole being that she loves him but she goes with other men for money. It is actually happening and he knows it. Once she has sex with Eric Roberts, Izabella "lets Brandon go". She does not keep him in the sense of being faithful to him by keeping him in her mind and in her heart.
The thoughts are killing him and jealousy devours and torments him. It is only torment and torture of his soul. Even her alibis of where she has been and what she has been doing make Brandon choke. Her alibis may even go the extent of saying that she loves Brandon and that the sex for money means nothing to her. In his own words 'it is the price he pays for falling in love with Izabella who is a prostitute. That's maybe why he was in his own cage.
He was vulnerable. Brandon always looks at the bright side of things. Even tragic happenings in his life or the paths that are offered that lead to tragedy are looked upon by Brandon as bright and neede events. In the end he repeats - "I never.. General Comment This is probably so different to what anyone else thinks, but I saw the song totally backwards probably because it happened to me with my guy.
I thought that it implied that the GUY kissed another girl, and his girlfriend caught him. He keeps saying to himself "it was only a kiss, it was only a kiss". How could something so small end a relationship and "end up like this"? After she caught him cheating, she moved on to someone new, and now he's jealous.
Don't blow my head off, lol. I realise that The Killers probably did intend it to be the other way around as everyone else mentioned, but this is what the song means to ME. Everytime I listen to this song, I dunno whether to be happy or sad.
It's really beautifully written. Luv it xliljulietx on July 25, Link. No Replies Log in to reply. General Comment The guy is falling in love with a girl. He loves her, and he's completely open with her, he trusts her fully and he can't imagine himself with anyone else. However, there's times when jealousy rears its ugly head, maybe because he's been hurt in the past by her or by someone else. He starts doubting his trust in her, because she can really hurt him since he's so open with her and loves her with his life.
Then he realizes that its 'all in his head' and that he should stop assuming the worst with her, because she really loves him. He needs to 'open up his eager eyes, cause he's Mr. Brightside', he needs to start looking at good conclusions like he usually does, not just the worst possible outcomes. Sad to say, there's times when I'm Mr. I love the girl and I trust her, but there's times when jealousy rears its ugly head and she helps me beat it back down.
I love you baby and thanks for always standing by me. General Comment My interpretation of the song is that he wants a woman that is already seeing someone He wishes he could be the guy and starts to get very jealous of the fact that he isn't "Jealousy, Turning saints into the sea".
When he says "But it's just the price I pay" I believe this relates to the fact he has kissed a girl that he knew he would not be able to have a relationship with in the first place, thus the 'price he pays' is all of the mental images and constant jealousy that he suffers from then on.
I believe this is him begging for the mental images and jealousy to go and for him to just forget the whole thing. If you watch the video, it also become apparent that the girls boyfriend seems to mistreat and use her Although the song doesn't back this up at any point the relevance of the girl in a strop on her own seems to serve a relevance to the lyrics. Hope my interpretation was of some use. Kiz Kizbits on June 01, Link.

I remember us going into the Virgin Megastore to buy The Strokes' Is This It on the day it came out and, when we put it on in the car, that record just sounded so perfect.
